A heroes' tributeOn October 20, 2013, West End Pizza Company, through the generous donations from our community and local businesses, raised over $3000 for the Wounded Warriors at Nebo. This event started as a celebration of the restaurant's owner, 1LT Hal Degenhardt's arrival home from a tour in Afghanistan.
The Degenhardt’s felt tremendous support from the community and customers through two deployments since opening the restaurant. The fundraiser, now know as Pizza For A Purpose, has become an annual event. Pizza For A Purpose is a day to celebrate our military and our community. It takes place on the West End Pizza Company patio where a large buffet is full of pizza, pasta and salad. Through the generous donations of area businesses and individuals, in 2016, over 150 items where raffled at the event! West End Pizza Company donates the food, the venue, collects donations & raffle prizes. The restaurant’s employees, along with many customers, volunteer their time during the event. 100% of the money collected from raffle ticket purchases, auctions and the food buffet are donated to Wounded Warriors at Nebo. Pizza for a Purpose raised over $19,000 for Wounded Warriors at Nebo. Most obvious is the money raised which helps us to continue providing services in the form of R&R weekends, Day Events and Retreats for the wounded, ill and their care provider and family. Your events have also raised the visibility of the ministry with residents and businesses in the community and surrounding areas. That visibility has resulted in unsolicited donations and volunteers to further the ministry. Your generosity doesn’t stop with the fundraisers. It is extremely helpful to the ministry to know we can bring or send warriors and their families to West End Pizza Company for a meal and you will provide it at a discount. The money saved is used in other ways to help the warriors."
— Dottie Pieper, WWAN Social Media "Wounded Warriors at Nebo (WWAN) is a Fredericksburg, Texas based interdenominational ministry. WWAN uses funds raised from Pizza For A Purpose to pay for food, supplies, entertainment, hotel rooms and B&Bs in order to bring military men and women to Fredericksburg. Because of Pizza For A Purpose and other charitable contributions from West End Pizza Company, I have witnessed miraculous changes in these soldiers. WWAN is making a substantial difference in these fragile lives, no doubt, because of the generosity and dedication of Hal and Janet Degenhardt." —Debbi McCurdy, WWAN Board Member |
“It is my personal belief that the first fund raiser that West End Pizza did for us was a turning point in our ministry and has allowed us to grow in the services and opportunities we offer to our wounded military. ”
